Claire Wetton is a Brummie based comedy writer, with experience of writing for audiences of all age groups, from pre-school to Pam Ayres.
Following a short stint in stand up and sketch performance, Claire turned to writing topical and sketch comedy for BBC Radio 4, on shows such as Newsjack, Show What You Wrote, The Now Show, News Quiz and Ayres on the Air. She was subsequently named on the BBC New Talent Hotlist in 2017, and is an alumni of the BBC Writersroom (Comedy) 2016.
After being named finalist in the CBBC Classed Dismissed initiative two years in a row, Claire began writing for Children’s TV. She is currently one of the main writing team on the BAFTA award winning CBBC series, Horrible Histories, which she also script edits. She has also written episodes for shows such as Dennis and Gnasher Unleashed, Scream Street, Dodo, Crackerjack, Gigglebiz, Something Special, and sketch shows Bad Nature and Silly Animals, which she also script edited.
She recently went back to her radio roots, writing 5 episodes of the Horrible Histories podcast, released on BBC Sounds. She now knows A LOT about Gandhi, should you ever need a new pub quiz team member.
Claire is currently working on a number of new projects, including writing episodes of SUPERTATO for the CBBC and STAN & GRAN for Jellyfish Pictures. She is also lead writer for a brand new Aardman Animations project in development and part of the core writing team for the forthcoming series of Horrible Science for Lion TV/CBBC.
