The Angel and the Cad by Geraldine Roberts pre-empted by Pan Macmillan

World English language rights to “a fabulous piece of historical writing” by Geraldine Roberts were acquired by Pan Macmillan’s non-fiction editorial director Georgina Morley from Sallyanne Sweeney at Mulcahy Associates.

The Angel and the Cad will “be a riveting account of the truly wretched marriage of Catherine Tylney Long and her shiftless and cruel husband – William Wellesley Pole”.

Morley said: “She was beautiful and wealthy – and said to be the inspiration for Jane Austen’s Catherine Morland; he was a handsome brute. The shocking twists and turns of their marriage caused the biggest celebrity scandal in Regency England and led to changes in the law.”

The Angel and the Cad will be published in June next year.
