Soname.

Author

Soname is a beautiful, small, feisty, unsentimental woman, with black hair reaching below her knees. Her tale – Soname’s Song – told against the backdrop of a turbulent blood strewn Tibet, is one of immense will, unbelievable courage, and above all, an indomitable soaring free spirit.

This former Tibetan child slave risked death in a freedom trek across the Himalayas aged just sixteen years old. Soname faced many dangers, adventures and heartaches in India after successfully escaping. The worst was when destitution forced her to place her daughter in an orphanage. Tracing her daughter and being reunited with her become Soname’s constant preoccupation and primary motive for the remainder the book. These efforts take the reader up to the last page: in 2005 Soname will be finally living together with her long lost child.

Soname also lives for her music which she writes herself (her songs tell her story and lament the fate of her homeland). She has a huge talent – a powerful, poignant, pure voice which is now being recognised. Her career success makes this book a Cinderella ‘rags to riches’ story with universal appeal. Her star is on the rise; she has performed at Royal Opera House, and is attracting world-wide attention. The media has picked her up: From Cleaning Lady to Leading Lady , blaze the headlines while a world-class record producer wants to make her next record.

UK & Commonwealth rights to Soname’s Song have been sold to Piatkus, Dutch rights to ECI / House of Books, and German rights at auction to Droemer with five underbidders.

Child of Tibet was a best seller in Germany, spending 18 weeks on the bestseller list. It reached number 13, and has sold to date 37,000 hardbacks and 69,000 paperbacks.
