Author
Charles is Co-Founder and full time Executive Director of Blue Marine Foundation. He made his name as an author and environmental journalist writing principally for The Sunday Times and The Daily Telegraph for which he was Environment Editor for 22 years.
He was co-author with the Prince of Wales of Highgrove: Portrait of an Estate, (Chapmans, 1993) a best-selling study of Prince Charles’s conversion to organic farming and gardening and a clarion call for sustainable farming.
His book The End of The Line: How Overfishing Is Changing the World and What We Eat (Ebury, 2004) and the award-winning documentary film with the same name that it inspired (2009) raised overfishing as a global problem.
The book won the Guild of Food Writers’ Derek Cooper Award for investigative food writing, an André Simon award for food writing and the Zoological Society of London’s BIOSIS award for communicating zoology.
His latest book, Rewilding the Sea: How To Save Our Oceans, was published in June 2022 by Witness Books, an Ebury imprint. It has been hailed by Margaret Atwood as ‘a game-changer’ in the debate about protecting the oceans and as “desperately needed” by the author of Wilding, Isabella Tree.
