In the book’s title story – SKIN – NATALIE meets JULIAN on a flight to Amsterdam. Chemistry fizzes. Natalie, recently overcoming binge-eating disorder and low self-esteem, considers handsome Julian too out-of-her-league. He’s travelling for a health conference. She’s on a budget city break. They part ways at the airport. Natalie checks out her cheap hostel and the local environs.

A chance encounter sees the pair happily reunite at the I AMSTERDAM sign that night. They agree to tourist together since they are both alone. Friendship and romance blossoms over the coming days as they explore the city. But Natalie is picking up on something – something’s not right. Julian is hesitant, holding back. Natalie finally confronts him. Is he married? Julian denies this but admits he has a secret. He leads her to his room and reveals his startling truth.
